Stewardship is ALIVE at Sacred Heart
We Are The Disciples of Christ

"Mature disciples make a conscious, firm decision, carried out in action, to be followers of Jesus Christ no matter what the cost to themselves. Beginning in conversion, change of mind and heart, this commitment is expressed not in a single action, nor even in a number of actions over a period of time, but in an entire way of life. It means committing one's very self to the Lord. Stewardship is an expression of discipleship with the power to change how we understand and live out our lives. Disciples who practice stewardship recognize God as the origin of life, the giver of freedom, the source of all they have and are and will be. They are deeply aware of the truth that "The Lord's are the earth and its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it" (Ps 24:1) They know themselves to be recipients and caretakers of God's many gifts. They are grateful for what they have received and eager to cultivate their gifts out of love for God and one another." Stewardship: A Disciple's Resonse, A Pastoral Letter on Stewardship, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. 2002.

Consider joining the Stewardship Committee at Sacred Heart. Our goal is to incorporate aspect of stewardship into daily life in our parish. Some new things we have committed ourselves too: New Parishioner Welcome Baskets, Steward of the Month, Children’s Stewardship. We are beginning to brainstorm for a Stewardship Fair. We typically meet the second Thursday of the month from 4:30 –5:30pm in the rectory. All are welcome!!! Contact Jon Olson for more information. 319-232-3550
Stewardship is a way of life deeply rooted in Jesus Christ, who by his example has taught us how to live. He came not to do his own will but the will of the One who sent him. He came not to be served but to serve.

God has given each of us something to do that no one else on earth can do. No one can be the parent, grandparent, or the member of your parish that you are called to be. Through stewardship, Jesus makes clear to each of us our individual mission in the church, giving us the grace to live stewardship as a way of life, a way of holiness and spirituality.

SACRED HEART STEWARD OF THE MONTH

ANDREW WOLFE

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”Mt. 25:21

THIS TEEN KNOWS ABOUT STEWARDSHIP

One is never too young to be a Steward--to share one's time and talent. So it is of Andrew Wolfe, a senior at West High Schooland a Sacred Heart parishioner.

Between school work, and part-time employment at Best Buy, Andrew serves as Youth Representative on the Sacred Heart Parish Council and is a member of Waterloo Catholic Youth Ministry. Andy serves as a peer minister for high school youth ministry activities and has also served as a small group leader

for our Vacation Bible School program. The little ones LOVE Andy!

He offers a wonderful example to younger students of a person

who tries to live his Catholic Christian values.

The son of Sue and Scott Denniston and Bill and Kelly Wolfe, Andrew is looking to his future at the University of Northern Iowa where he will major in (what else?) secondary education. With academics in his present and in his future, this young man exemplifies how a student can fulfill a stewardship role in his faith community.

SACRED HEART STEWARD OF THE MONTH

Maureen Haddeman

ONE OF OUR BEST IS SUMMONED HOME.

Sacred Heart Parish is blessed with many stewards who are willing to share their gifts of time, talent and treasure. When one of these stewards is called to their eternal reward, we are all less for their loss. Thus it is with the death of Maureen Haddeman. On June 30 Jesus took her by the hand and led His good and faithful servant to her eternal home.

Maureen did not have the word "no" in her vocabulary. When asked, she served, and when not asked, she volunteered. She was a lector and Eucharistic Minister at daily and Sunday Masses and took the Eucharist to patients at Allen Memorial Hospital, to the homebound and to the Catholic residents at Ravenwood Care Center. She was no novice in this stewardship, having served from the time lay ministers were first commissioned and when the ministry began at Allen Hospital 25 years ago, continuing until the time of her death.A loyal and long-time Catholic Daughter of the Americas of Court Castile 49, she led the Rosary at the funeral home for deceased Catholic Daughters as well as for deceased Sacred Heart parishioners. Her voice was familiar to those attending weekday  and Sunday Mass, where she often was a Rosary leader. If her friends needed transportation to Mass, or other activities, they knew who to call...Maureen.
The Lord uses humble Stewards to build the Kingdom of God. He called one of Sacred Heart's best when He summoned Maureen.
