SACRED HEART STEWARD OF THE MONTH
MICHAEL MEANEY
Well done, good and faithful servant."
Mt. 25:21
A Sacred Heart parishioner, who emigrated to Waterloo from County Clare, Ireland, in 1949, is the Sacred Heart Steward of the Month for February. Michael Meaney, when told of this recognition, said, "Oh, there are lots of people there (at Sacred Heart) who deserve this more than I do." A good steward is one who practices stewardship in all areas of life. This is a person of prayer who seeks to put God's will into practice. This month's steward lives these tenets.
Michael and his wife, Mercedes, who were married in 1952, have reared eight children: David, Maria, Mike, Tom, Mercedes, Grace, Philip and Sheila. They have blessed their parents with 20 grandchildren. The Meaneys chose Sacred Heart as their parish and as the school for their children in the early 1950's. Since then Michael has been involved in church life on many levels: as a sacristan, an altar server, Eucharistic Minister to those who are homebound or hospitalized and as an usher.
Peripherally, he remembers calling people to help clean church; working on the Fall Festival and being a part of fund drives for Sacred Heart and Columbus High School. Now, at 82, in the winter of his seasons, he admits he is slowing down. But, that has not stopped him from making soup and taking it to those who are ailing. Nor has it stopped him from baking assorted dinner rolls, quick breads and the one closest to his heart, "Irish Soda Bread", all of which he shares with others.
Sacred Heart Parish is grateful to have Michael Meaney
shining his light with us all.
