Stewardship is ALIVE at Sacred Heart
We Are The Disciples of Christ
Prayer is essential to the life of a Christian Steward.
Our prayer helps us to be better aware of God’s goodness in our lives.
Prayer is also essential to one’s conversion and continues to challenge us to be better Christians.
Stewardship Prayer for August
It helps, now and then, to step back and take a long view.
The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts,
it is even beyond our vision.
We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction
of the magnificent enterprise that is God’s work.
Nothing we do is complete, which is a way of saying
that the kingdom always lies beyond us.
No statement says all that could be said.
No prayer fully expresses our faith.
No confession brings perfection.
No pastoral visit brings wholeness.
No program accomplishes the church’s mission.
No set of goals and objectives includes everything.
This is what we are about.
We plant the seeds that one day will grow.
We water seeds already planted,
knowing that they hold future promise.
We lay foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces far beyond our capabilities.
We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation
in realizing that. This enables us to do something,
and to do it very well. It may be incomplete,
but it is a beginning, a step along the way,
an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest.
We may never see the end results, but that is the difference
between the master builder and the worker.
We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own.
Amen.
- Archbishop Oscar Romero (b. August 15, 1917)

SACRED HEART STEWARD OF THE MONTH
DICK WEBER
“Well done, good and faithful servants.”
(Matt. 25:21)
DICK WEBER
LOWERS THE SAILS
When Dick Weber was growing up on a farm near Gilbertville, he probably never envisioned helping to sail a ship. Yet, when he retired from Chamberlains, he volunteered to come on board in 1993
to help sail Sacred Heart Church as its Administrative Assistant.
"I did it to help out Father, so he could concentrate on his pastoral work,"
explains Dick, Sacred Heart's Steward of the Month of June.
What are his duties? Whatever is needed. Functioning in a professional role,
he offers his wisdom and insight for financial planning and decisions for the parish.
Most noteworthy is his "hands on" service on the Building and Grounds sub-committee.
Here, he contacts vendors and solicits quotes for projects in that realm
and then supervises the work as needed.
Recently he was the overseer for the new carpet and paint in O'Hagan Hall
and the new crosses on the top of Sacred Heart Church.
This Steward also attends meetings of the parish staff, Finance and Social Concerns Committees,
and then reports his findings back to the Pastoral Council.
In addition to assisting the parish maintenance person by making contacts for service,
Dick would be found in the winter shoveling and de-icing Sacred Heart's sidewalks in the early hours of the day.
A member of Sacred Heart since he and Marilyn were married in 1968, Dick Weber is, at the end of June,
entering his second retirement, this time from the ship of Sacred Heart.
May you sail strong and sure in this new season of your life, faithful servant.
