Stewardship is ALIVE at Sacred Heart
We Are The Disciples of Christ
All that we have and all that we are is a gift from a generous and loving God. Stewardship is a way of life based upon gratitude for these gifts. This includes our time, talent, and our treasure. It also includes the gifts of the earth and all it holds, our faith, our personal vocation and our very lives. We are stewards not owners of these gifts. Our gifts are not to be ignored or used solely for ourselves, but are made available to build up the Kingdom of God. Stewardship involves a free choice to use God’s gifts out of motives for love, thankfulness and justice, not guilt or fear.
Stewardship is a holistic approach to faith. It addresses our inherent need to give back to God. Stewardship relates to all other areas of ministry. It grows out of a desire for lifelong faith formation. It draws strength from prayer and liturgy. It leads to a life dedicated in service to others.
Stewardship is about spiritual development. It is about responding to the call to be a disciple of Christ. Stewardship applies to every aspect of our individual lives and to the life of the parish community. Stewardship is best understood by living it. The Catholic Bishop’s pastoral Letter on Stewardship describes a Christian Steward as:
“one who receives God’s gifts gratefully,
cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner,
shares them in justice and love with others,
and returns them with increase to the Lord.”
We are thankful for all the good stewardship efforts we see at Sacred Heart. We have an active Stewardship Committee that welcomes new members. Please contact Cathy Mills 234-6593 ext 208 if interested in hearing more about this vibrant area of parish life.
SACRED HEART STEWARD OF THE MONTH
PAT SEARS
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Mt. 25:21
THIS GO-TO WOMAN PREFERS BACKGROUND
The September Steward at Sacred Heart is a person who prefers being in the background,
but is the "go-to" woman when a job needs doing and goodwill needs spreading.
A member of the Sacred Heart Church Family since birth, Pat Sears demonstrates to her fellow parishioners
what STEWARDSHIP is all about.
An active member of the Social Concerns Committee and a non-voting secretary of the Parish Council,
both for 20 years, Pat also serves on Funeral Ministry.
Here she makes all the calls for cakes and salads for a funeral dinner
and then usually arrives to help with serving and clean-up.
When Fall Festival time is near, Pat can once again be found on the telephone, along with helpful aides,
calling for volunteers and donations for the event.
And, then there are those monthly meetings of the Church Row Neighborhood where Pat represents Sacred Heart. Also, she is a Eucharistic Minister to Allen Memorial Hospital and Sacred Heart.
When asked where this dutiful sense of involvement comes from, this mother of three, grandmother of four,
and the wife of Glen explains simply and from her heart,
"I believe in giving of self, and in giving back my time and talent to my parish."
