Ministry to Homebound, Hospitals, Care Centers
Care-giving is an important, well-coordinated service by many individuals and groups at Sacred Heart. One of the objectives is to see that the homebound and parishioners residing at Ravenwood Care Center receive Eucharist every Sunday.

We invite anyone interested in knowing more about Sacred Heart Parish to contact our parish office at 319-234-4996. A staff member will be happy to answer any of your questions and/or make an appointment with you to register as a parish member. Office hours are 9:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday.

Little Rock
Scripture Series returns to Sacred
Heart!
Now is the time for
making New Year’s Resolutions. Resolve this year to
spend more time in Scripture study and prayer. A
Little Rock Scripture Study series on “Women in the
New Testament” will meet on Tuesday mornings from 9
to 10:30 am in O’Hagan Hall. This series will start
Jan. 22, 2008 and run for 8 weeks through March 11.
Cost for the study guide is $12.00. Pre-register by
calling the parish office at 234-4996. Walk ins are
also welcome.
Marriage Preparation
Session at Sacred Heart
Saturday, Feb. 23,
2008, from 10:00 am to 3:00 PM in O'Hagan Hall Lunch
is provided. Topics presented: The Sacrament of
Marriage
Marriage Communication, Natural Family Planning, The
Spirituality of Marriage, Liturgy planning and a tour
of church.
All couples planning to marry at Sacred Heart in 2008
are encouraged to make this date a priority in
preparing for their marriage.
Adult
Confirmation Preparation
If you are an adult age 19-90 and have not
celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation, these
classes are for you! Sessions will offer an update on
the Catholic faith and immediate preparation for
Confirmation.
Dates & time: February 13, 20, 27, & March 5
from 6:30-8:30pm
Sessions are held at Blessed Sacrament School.

Fundamentals of the
Catholic Faith with Fr. Lou
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO
JOIN Fr. Lou Jaeger in his series "Review of the Catholic
Faith". Sessions will meet on Wednesday
afternoons from
1:00-2:00pm - beginning January 16th. This overview
is designed for anyone who wants to renew or deepen
their understanding of why Catholics believe what
they believe and why they do what they do. To

Vacation Bible
School 2008
Get ready for another
fabulous week in June (dates will be determined based
on the date summer vacation begins). The theme is
"Power Lab:
Discovering Jesus' Miraculous Power".
Children ages 5-10 are invited to participate. VBS is
held at Blessed Sacrament Parish and is a shared
program among Sacred Heart, Blessed Sacrament, and
Queen of Peace parishes. Watch the bulletin in May
for the registration/information flyer. You won't
want to miss this great experience for
kids!

MEETING ... for
non-Catholics interested in joining the Catholic
Church will be held Sunday, Feb. 3, 10:00am in
St. Matthew Room (rectory basement) at St. Edward
Parish. (No registration)
• The Rite of Christian Reception for adults
who have been baptized, fully catechized, and active
in a Christian tradition will begin on Sunday, Feb.
17 at St. Edward's. (Pre-registration
required)
The Catholic Parishes in Waterloo will
offer the following opportunities for adults this
Lent:
• Our Lenten
Journey. This series
will combine prayer and reflection to help adults
appreciate the Lenten season and the celebration of
the Easter Vigil. Monday evenings, starting
Feb. 11, 7:00-8:30pm, at Queen of Peace Parish. (No
registration)
• Lenten Scripture
Study Groups We will be forming small
groups which will meet weekly to discuss the Sunday
Scripture readings. The groups will meet on a day and
time to be determined by the participants, starting
the week of Feb. 10. (Pre-registration
required)
• Bridges to
Contemplative Living These small,
faith-sharing groups will use the writings of Thomas
Merton and other spiritual guides to examine how to
live a more contemplative and reflective life in the
midst of a very busy world. Groups will meet for four
weeks on a day and time to be determined by the
participants. (Pre-registration required)
• Social Justice
Lenten Retreat This day-long retreat
conducted by Catholic activist Frank Cordaro will
help participants use the Lenten season to deepen
their understanding of Catholic Social Teaching.

• Theology on Tap
Lenten Series This six-week series for
young adults in their 20s and 30s begins Thursday,
Feb. 7, at Beck's Sports Brewery,
Waterloo.
CATHOLIC SEEKERS and
INACTIVE CATHOLICS -- The Catholic Parishes in
Waterloo are forming a faith-sharing group for
Seekers, inactive, alienated and former Catholics who
want to meet to discuss questions, concerns or issues
about the Catholic Church. This group will meet once
a month on a day and time to be determined by the
participants.
