Learning
Elementary Religious
Education (CCD)
CCD registration for
students attending public schools (grades 1-8) is ongoing.
Students and families are welcome at any time of
year. Our program includes regular religion classes,
a human growth and development curriculum, and
intergenerational family nights, as well as Masses, Prayer
Services, Penance Services, and visits from the
Pastor. New families are asked to bring a copy of
your child's baptismal certificate at the time you enroll
in classes.
Classes begin September
12, 2007: Registration at 6:30pm in the school gym. This is
the first night of class!
C.O.R.E. (Cooperative Opportunities in Religious Education)
Religion classes for
students attending public high schools (grades 9-12) will
begin at Columbus High School on Wednesday, Oct. 4th, at
6:30 p.m. These classes are scheduled in six-week
sessions and offered in the fall, winter, and spring of
each year.
Fall session 2007 dates

15, 28. NO CLASSES on October

These classes provide basic religious education and are
similar to the courses taught at Columbus High
School. Becky Keeling (415-6936) is the CORE
coordinator for all participating parishes.
Students MAY NOT participate in any parish Confirmation
program without basic high school level religion courses,
so it is important to enroll in these classes!
Courses offered on a rotating basis include: Sacraments,
Hebrew Scripture, New Testament, Morality, Prayer &
Worship, Personal Growth in Faith, Christology, Catholic
Identity, etc.
Registration flyers will
be mailed directly to all Sacred Heart public high school
families. Please watch your mail for the flyers and return
them to the address listed on the flyer. If you have
any questions, please call Pam Johnston at 234-8394.
Adult
C.O.R.E. classes are offered once
during each six-week session. These classes are primarily
for parents of CORE students and focus on ONE of the
courses being offered during that session. Flyers are sent
home with students on the first night of class. The
information regarding the course being reviewed is included
in the flyer.
Vacation Bible School
A shared summer
program is offered with the parishes of Blessed Sacrament
and Queen of Peace. It is open to children ages 5-10
years old and is focused on daily bible themes. The
next VBS program is scheduled for a week in June 2008 at
Blessed Sacrament parish, Waterloo.
Columbus High
School
Metro parishes support a Catholic high school for grades
9-12. A Catholic faith perspective is integrated throughout
the curriculum.
Sacred Heart Elementary School (Preschool-8th
Grade)
Sacred Heart School provides an academic curriculum
approved by the Archdiocese of Dubuque and certified by the
State of Iowa. We strive to teach the whole child in an
environment which strengthens Christian values, the
Catholic faith of students, and each child's personal
relationship with God.
