February News!
What a great start to a great 2012 year at CCD!!
January was filled with many exciting and enriching activities.
The 4th Graders created decorated treat bags to distribute
at Sacred Heart’s monthly Community Meal.
Rumor has it there may be fleece tie blankets in their near future.
The 6th Graders were able to see, touch and smell real Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh as their Catechist discussed Epiphany.
The 7th Graders visited the school’s computer lab to learn about the Saints.
AND….
Our 2nd Graders have begun their important and fulfilling journey to the Lord’s Table.
During February we will be preparing for Lent and reconciliation.
There will be no classes on Feb. 8th due to a Catechist In-service.
There will be no classes on Ash Wednesday Feb. 22nd.
Please attend your parish Ash Wednesday Service with your children.
Changes in Mass Language
Each parish began using the third edition of the Roman Missal on the first Sunday of Advent. This ushered in the changes to the Mass language as we are using a more accurate translation from Latin to English.
Some prayers now recited by memory will need to be relearned,
and the familiar language of many prayers recited by the priest
will change.
Visit www.usccb.org/roman missal to study the new texts
and to learn more about the changes.
175th Anniversary of Archdiocese of Dubuque
Members of the Catholic parishes in the 30 counties of northeast Iowa will be celebrating the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Archdiocese of Dubuque in the coming year. The Archdiocese began the yearlong observance with a special Eucharist at 2pm on November 20th at the Cathedral of St. Raphael in Dubuque.
Future events will be announced in the church bulletins.
A new book outlining the history of all the parishes in the diocese as well as how our diocese was formed is available for purchase.
The cost is $30.
There is also a smaller booklet patterned after a comic book that is great for children and students. The cost is $5.00
