Cardinals are Boys Champions

The Varsity Boys Basketball Team won the League Tournament Championship last Friday night in a very exciting game over the Blessed Sacrament Crusaders. The final score was 48-44. The Cardinals jumped out to an 8 - 2 lead early in the game but then went cold and fell behind by 10 points midway through the second period. Then the team picked up their defensive pressure and managed to be behind by only one point at half time. The game went back and forth in the third period and the Cardinal lead never was more than 5 points, but the team managed to hold on at the end and claim an exciting victory. Earlier in the week the Cardinals defeated a fine St. Athanasius team 44-36 to gain the semifinals. On Thursday in the semifinal game the Team defeated St. John's who may have been the best team in the league (next to the Cardinals!) 51-43. In all games a different player or players stepped up and really made things happen. It was truly a great ending to a very fine season. The team finished with an overall record of 11-3 and could not play 5 games due to weather cancellations. Congratulations to the starting team: Mitch Karr,Miles Meyers, Danny Zeets, Shane Kemp, Andrew Street, Phinny Starks, and Aaron Boesen. The remainder of the team who also added much to practice and games were: Nick Mills, Casey Gilles, Tomosu Menning, Jake VanBeisen, Sam Kapler, and Nick Cutsforth. Congratulations to coaches Jim Harn and Mike Amundson who coached his last game at least for the near future!
